Hourglass Luminous Light Ambient Lighting Powder

Create your perfect light. Ambient Lighting Powder is a groundbreaking collection of finishing powders that capture, diffuse, and soften the way light reflects on your skin. Unlike traditional powders, which merely cloak imperfections, Ambient Lighting Powder utilizes photoluminescent technology to filter out harsh light and refine the appearance of the complexion. The powders deliver a multidimensional luminescence to every skintone, making it appear softer, younger, and lit-from-within. The finishing powders enhance skin in any type of light, including flash photography. With six universal shades available, you can create your desired effect—not unlike having a personal lighting technician. Ambient is free of talc, gluten, fragrance, and nanoparticles. It is available in six universally flattering shades from least pearl to most pearl.

I am so late with this but I had to join the army of women using new Lighting powders from Hourglass – my first ever Hourglass product. I had to see myself what’s all the hype about. Among 6 different shades released I picked Luminous Light: A champagne pearl that creates a soft, incandescent candlelit glow—day or night.

Luminous light is probably the most subtle highlighter I own. As these were released I rememeber everyone talking about how they can be used all over and I was doubtful about it. I wear Luminous light as any other highlighter on the highest points of the face (top of the cheekbones, down the nose…) but I also recently tried to gently dust it with Fan brush all over my face and it looked really good – not shimmery just more luminous and brighter.
This is great product for highlighter beginners, for someone who doesn’t want to shine like a disco ball, it is so full-proof and so easy to use I doubt you can overdo it. VERY office friendly if you work in the (makeup) conservative environment.
Powder is soft and finely miled and I had no issues applying with different brushes. Does not require too much blending nor any special application.  I do like it. Do I love it? No. It’s just ok for me. I prefer more dramatic and more noticeable highlighters but to wear it as a nice subtle highlighter or all over brightening powder I do like it. If I have to get up at 5 am and do quick subtle makeup in half dark room this is great choice since it will always look great.
This is kind of a cross between basic setting powder and a highlighter – too shimmery for setting powder but to subtle to be called highlighter.
With it’s subtle shimmer and softness mostly reminded me of MAC Lightscapade but less “white” and more skin like color. It has base beige champagne color with subtle golden/silver shimmer.
Packaging I do not like. It is cheap bulky plastic – something like Bobbi Brown.
I also purchased their Ambient powder palette mostly because I wanted to try Dim light and highlighting shade that comes only in the palette. Review to come soon, stay tuned!

Amber lighting powder retails for 45$ and I purchased mine at Sephora.
