Yves Saint Laurent The Shock Volumizing Mascara review

The most volumizing mascara by Yves Saint Laurent. The Shock mascara coats each lash with maximum volume in just one stroke and without clumping. The hourglass shaped brush allows more of the exclusive shock formula to grab hold of lashes. With brilliant, high intensity color, this longwear mascara will give you dramatic lashes that don’t smudge.

I have tried most of the YSL mascaras launched in the past decade and while some were really good or even great like iconic Effet faux cils (before the recent reformulation which ruined it completely), or EFC Shocking (you must admit it is confusing having 2 mascaras with very similar name – I wonder if they will discontinue Shocking?) The shock is definitely the best one so far. I have always high expectations from mascaras – that “natural” look doesn’t work for me when it comes to lashes. The bigger the more dramatic the better.

The shock mascara seems like it is targeting younger audience which is noticeable a lot lately from most of the luxurious brands. Look at the packaging – it gives me a lot of Too Faced vibes won’t you agree? Also it has almost identical brush to Too Faced better than sex as well as Marc Jacobs Velvet noir – both proved that this kind of brush gives dramatic volume. Since I have tried all three of them here is little comparison : YSL has better formula than MJ – gives more volume with less coats, and does not flake like Too Faced (my deal breaker when it comes to this mascara. Good volume but it flakes so much during the day it is unacceptable).

I have not experienced any flaking or smudging both on top lid or under the eyes with YSL The shock mascara. For me this can be huge deal breaker even if I love the results I refuse to deal with this with 30+ $ mascara. I would curl lashes with Lancome le curler and then apply two coats of YSL The shock. It is easily buildable and does not clump up. If your lashes are short and flat it keeps them lifted throughout the day and doesn’t way them down. Honestly the only thing I could say negative about it that it has strong scent to it that lingers for a while after application – not an issue for me but it might be concerning for some with sensitive eyes.

With some of the other YSL iconic products – Touche eclat foundation and Touche eclat – amazing combination for brighter even toned and illuminated complexion. Simple but effective look – perfect complexion, bright lips and huge eyelashes.

Overall YSL The shock is amazing mascara and it really delivers what is promised. It went into my top 3 mascaras including Lancome Hypnose and Guerlain cils d’enfer . It retails for 29$ and can be found at Sephora and most of the department stores / fine retailers.

YSL The shock mascara was sent to me complimentary from Influenster but all opinions are my own.
